Hi Onni,
Thanks a lot for an encouraging comment from you. I am trying to add as many konkani recipes as possible on my blog.
Hi! Prabha , A very good effort to spread typical amchi food. all the best. I would appreciate if you could add fish [ zalakya randayyo] preperations too. Younger generations will like it. There is another site for asmchi food for American amchis written by Shilpa. known as Ayi’s recipes.
Hi Kanchan,
Thanks for your nice comment. We are purely vegetarian food eaters. I have not touched any non-vegetarian item so far. Hope you will excuse me .
Dear Prabhakka,
My husband K Ramesh Kamath just forwarded this link to me and this is just amazing. You have created a wonderful site with lots of typical amchi dishes.Way to go Prabhakka.Keep up the good work.
I fact I was looking for authentic puttu recipe and i found the same in ur site along with the kadale curry. I am going to try it.
Good luck and looking forward to many more amchi recipes in ur website.
Thanks, Kiranmayi.
This is my sincere effort to give authentic konkani recipes to the needy ones.
A very nice collection of god recipes.Do you have only vg. recipes?
Hi Sucheta,
Thank you very nuch for your appreciation of my recipe blog. As I am a pure vegetaranian I know only vegetaranian cooking.
Dear Prabha
I am a food writer and editor and would love to get in touch with you. I will be in Pune on Friday 18th Feb and wonder if we can meet in the afternoon.
I look forward to hearing from you
Regards
Rita

Hello Prabhaka!
You are in the news in all ways! With Shantikaa visiting us last week and Satishannu yesterday, a lot of conversation was around you.
Thanks for making this foodpedia and congrats on the rumours we are hearing on book publishing!
I did make Bondi sukken and am going to search now for Dudhiye Alchikare
Keep the recipes coming,
Love from all of us
Sidhu,
Thanks a lot for the nice comments. I am extremely glad to note that my blog has come handy to you. My blog is extensive on our recipes. It has about 266 of our Konkani recipes, besides a few ones from other regions . Konkani recipe page gives all our recipes and they are all linked. For easy viewing , you can go to the recipe list and click on the one you like, to view details. Only a very few of konkani recipes are left out. These also will be published in the next few days.
Love to all of you
As a child, I used to relish a sweet dish served as prasad at Satyanarayna puja. It was something like a sheera but also had banana in it. I have never had it since. I would love to know what its name is and also how to prepare it. I have tried cooking mashed sweet bananas into sheera but it never quite tasted like that prasad.
R Pai
Dear Renuka,
First of all, let me thank you for browsing into my blog and specifically taking interest in a recipe which is liked by you very much.
Please click on the Recipe page after entering my Home page. You will find your recipe against sl. no. 18, SHEERE(Sheera) under the category, Godsaniche(Sweets).
Just a minute or two before the sheera is fully done, you can cut ripe bananas into small pieces and add to the sheera and stir it into the contents. Adding banana pieces also enhanes the taste of Sheera.
Hi Renuka,
I have published Sapada Neivedyam today. That will fullfill your requirement, I hope. You can see the homepage for the recipe..
Dear Prabha,
Your Konkani recipes list is very impressive.
I, however, did not find ” Chanwali ki Dal” in it. It is made from whole Chanwali (chanwla, in Hindi) with freshly grated coconut and is eaten with rice.
Could you please let me know in what proportion various ingredients/spices are added in it.
Thanks.
Pramila Sharma
Dear Pramila,
I have not heard of this grain/lentil. I have done some good browsing to get a hang of it. I regret that I could not find any material having this name. Do you mean chouli ? Can you throw some further light on this ?
Prabha
Dear Prabhaji,
yes it is same as “Chouli” mentioned by you.
Thanks for your prompt response.
Regards.
Pramila Sharma
Hi Pramila,
Using chowli, you can prepare many items, like you make with any other pulses. Konkani people make ghassi, humman, upkeri, voda kheeri etc. While making ghassi you can add suran, potato, sopur kook(chinese potato) etc. You can refer the recipe list for details.
Prabhakka………….wow, this is an amazing collection of anvchigele recipes. Haven’t visited this site in a while. Thank you for putting this together. Its great that we can always refer to this ebook of authentic thekka side recipes anytime we want. I had a good laugh when I saw the recipe for keleya salli gassi…..i remember Sureshannu’s comment when my mother used to make it ..” nanga enne? maadaa, manushana?!!!
Love,
Asha
Hi Asha,
Thanks for the nice comment. As you know konkanis are well known for not wasting anything in the veges. They make use of most of the parts of veges.Even other people used to laugh on this. These days people are health conscious and use more of ghasboos.
Hi Prabhakka.
Thank you for putting together the Konkani recipes Great work,it was a pleasure going through them.I was reminded of bapa.He too never wasted any part of the vegetables.Had he been around ,would have appreciated a lot.I saw this site just today.Congratulations !!!once again.I will ask Honi to show it to Amma too.
Thanks, Jaya. I am very happy, you liked my blog. Now I am writing on konkani festivals. Hope all are fine at your side.
Yes Prabhakka ,all well here and in Pondy.Awaiting eagerly for your next venture.
Jaya,
Have a glance at my two other blogs also and send your comments/suggestions .

Dear Sonam,

Nice blog. Will be back to browse.

I have put them under ‘Follow’ in another blog of mine, http://prabhasfoodcourt.blogspot.com/
Prabha Akka,
Great! I am great fan of this blog. Almost all konkani recipes are very well documented here.
I would like to ask one question: Does gubbus roti and buns are one and same?
Waiting for your reply.
Thanks,
-Snehal Kamath.
Hi! Snehal. You are right. As it is not a common name I desisted from using it for the public.Anyway, I have added that name too. See blog.

thanx again
Shilpa,
I am happy that my write-up and its format meet the viewer’s taste. My thanks for your sincere comment.
So far as gojju and sanna polo are concerned, they are described under different names familiar in my region. You may please refer in this connection palya polo and different varieties of chirdille under the title of chutneys and raitas in the recipe list.
prabha mayi,You have awesome,, endless recipes which tells experience speaks… lovley mayi..
will surely try all ..
Dear Sudha,
Nice and pleasing remarks. All these have come down from generation to generation. Our ancestors have taken lot of risks , innovated lot of things, researched on many leafy, root and ordinary vegetables and created this compendium.
Like Vedas, it has come down through word of mouth and of late through a few regional books .My attempt is just put it down for the posterity and also reach the community throughout the world.
Prabha mayi,
Thank you for a wonderful list of Konkani dishes. It is so refreshing to read these recipes! Some are forgotten to this generation.
Would you please post “Panka Phovu” recipe? My grandma use to make this because it had a longer shelf life than the instant “godu phovu”. What is the proportion and string consistency for the “paanku”?
Thanks for all your efforts.
Mridula
Mridula,
I have posted Satta Phovu. You may please refer to Sl.No. 14 under Godsaniche/Sweets on the Recipe list page. This item is linked to the details of the item on the Home page. Under the foot note at the end of the details, I have written about the string texture used to make Panka Phovu. You may find it useful.
Dear Prabha Aunty,
Heartful of thanks for all the recipes. Great work indeed. I used to refer ur recipes while preparing some currys and snacks. Continue your experiments, anything new,, if found may please post…..All the very best for your works….

Hi Prabhakka
Venkatesh & Rekha fm. Toronto.An excellent Blog,gradually becomming a
reference manual for young housewives(mainly) living in sattelite families
without anybody old enough to guide in home-cooking, especially age-old
items from central and southern kerala(Travancore-Cochin side) GSBs..
Our sincere best wishes.
One old item apparently missed is spicy/salty snack KOUNDANI which maybe a distant cousin of THIKSANI RONTI or KONKANI SPICY PAPPAD-MIRYA APPOLLU as the ingrediants as I remember include Udad Flour(No wheat
flour or besan or rice powder), salt,Black pepper, haldi powder,Ajwain etc etc , made into Very very thin pappad like shape, cut into diamonds smaller than Thiksani Ronti and fried (3-4 mm size) and fried. No Jeera, No appal Khar.No hing.No Sesame seeds, No chilli powder to make it different from Thiksi ronti, different from Pappadavadai, and different from Mirya Appolu, Thattu vadai, Pepper vadai etc.in tase ans appearance!.
Anybody can contribute further on this item, as this item was a favourite of
my grand mother(maternal) your aunty in chertalla in the 50s and 60s.
Venkatesh
